We want to break free! Sevilla boss Mendilibar tells stars to shake off shackles against Man Utd

Sevilla boss Jose Luis Mendilibar wants his team to remove the ropes that bind us and rise to the occasion of the Europa League rematch with Manchester United on Thursday.

A 2-0 win at Valencia in LaLiga on Sunday came despite Mendilibar feeling something was missing from the performance.

He considers it a huge boon that his team can still win while not at their best, and hopes they hit their peak at the right moment.

A fightback in Manchester by Sevilla means the quarter-final tie is locked at 2-2 heading into the second leg.

Speaking after his team s victory at Mestalla, Mendilibar said: We have to gain confidence. Sometimes you don t play well and the result is with you. That makes you think that when you play well, you re going to do even better.

Ivan Toney calls FA ‘bit spiteful’ over ban case after missing ‘dream’ World Cup

Ivan Toney claims the Football Association “was a bit spiteful” in its handling of the Brentford striker’s eight-month ban for breaking betting rules.

“I spent seven years, the best memories of my football career,” he said.

He does not see a future in professional coaching or management, but would love to help his five children follow him into the game.

“I am enjoying it a lot, I miss being with the lads in the dressing room a bit but I have the freedom to do what I want now,” he told the PA news agency.

As a result, any ban that Sakho picks up would be backdated, potentially offering him a crumb of hope of returning in time to be included in France s Euro 2016 squad.
